Oh, Christmas Tree

December 23, 2009

Well, it’s been a long time coming (due to me procrastinating about the housework) but the Christmas tree is finally up!  I cleaned from 10am until 4pm, then took a bath, then helped Dad get the tree down from the attic.  Of course, the box promptly fell apart – cue plastic tree needles all over the carpet.  Having flung the tree down the stairs, we were finally ready to decorate.

The Chipmunk, ever eager to help in these situations, was immediately on hand.  He had been tired after his day at the hospital yesterday, but came to life as soon as the tree arrived.  While my Dad was putting the lights on the tree, Chipmunk was asking questions about electrical circuits and how come the lights all have to be working to stay on…etc!  Chipmunk was also in charge of such crucial editorial decisions, such as whether we should use the gold or the silver star this year (he went with silver – it’s more classy, apparently).

Then it was time to decorate.  The Chipmunk took one side of the tree and I took the other – although he objected greatly to me hanging decorations on the branches that were out of his reach.  He almost knocked the tree over trying to prove to me that he was perfectly capable of doing those ones, too!  At last, the tree was up, the presents were all arranged underneath (I do hope the kitty doesn’t take it upon himself to unwrap them all!) and the Chipmunk’s hand-made paper snowflakes were stuck to the cabinet behind the tree.  And you know what?  It actually all came together really well…

Oh, that’s so classy! We don’t have any xmas tree – living compact living so there is no space for one, but I went for silver & blue for xmas gift wrapping this year 🙂

Get a lemon air freshener and spray it liberally around the tree and presents. Cats HATE citrus, or so I’ve read. Lavender oil works, too, supposedly, although Simon doesn’t seem to mind that I bathe in lavender soap…he bites me just the same!
