BLOGGERS UNITE: Human Rights Day 2009

December 10, 2009

Today is Human Rights Day.  The day when our thoughts turn to those less fortunate than ourselves.  Those who are oppressed or abused.  Those who have no voice.  Those for whom the phrase ‘Human Rights’ applies to somebody else, somewhere else.  Please, take the time to remember them today.

Those of you who blog, please visit Bloggers Unite to learn more about it and share it with your readers.

If you want to do something practical, you can visit organisations such as Amnesty International and find out about their Greetings Card campaign or one of their many other campaigns and activities.  There are several ways you can help, from something as simple as writing a letter, to more extensive and time-consuming measures – pick the one that’s right for you!

As an aside, today is also my mother’s birthday.  Fittingly, although I hadn’t realised it at the time, I bought her this:

It is a recycled glass necklace, Fair Trade so it is ethically sourced and made in Chile.  It is from the Amnesty International UK shop.  And she loved it!  If you do nothing else, at least take the time to browse – they have some fantastic Christmas gift ideas!
