MY TOP TEN… Christmas Carols

December 6, 2009

Just a quick post tonight.  The first in an(other) occasional series, inspired by the lovely @LizzieFrog – one of my wonderful Plurk friends!

Here, in no particular order, are my top ten favourite Christmas carols – not songs, there is a difference!

  1. Once in Royal David’s City
  2. Joy to the World (much as it pains me to admit it, I particularly like Mariah Carey’s take on this one!)
  3. Hark the Herald Angels Sing
  4. O Holy Night
  5. Silent Night (love the Simon and Garfunkel version!)
  6. Little Donkey (a lifelong favourite, since the days of the playschool Nativity play)
  7. O Little Town of Bethlehem
  8. O Come All Ye Faithful
  9. Away in a Manger
  10. Angels From the Realms of Glory

All are important to me for different reasons.  All are well-loved and easily recognisable songs for the season.  And all of them have an important part to play in reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.

I can agree with your choice not sure about Little Donkey although it used to be a fav of mine when I was young I suppose I was once.

My two favorite arrangements of Hark the Herald Angels: the Nylons and the Blenders. Both acappella, both fabulous.
